And now I Opine as to why Twilight is Racist

Yes, it’s a phenomenon with tween girls teaming up left and right with Edward or Jacob.  But is what they’re teaming up with as innocuous as it seems?

Let’s break it down.  I read Twilight, to me it was the book version of crack, couldn’t stand it or the writing style, but couldn’t put it down either.  And now that it’s done, I’ve gone through withdrawl, gotten over the sweats and the shakes, and like Lilo can look back on my time with an objective and critical eye.

It occurred to me the other night, standing in a bar full of people, while “Heart of Glass” pounded on the juke box, and the wingman for one of the Futurama animators tried to hit on me and my friends by asking if we like cartoons (whole different story, see quote of the night from Friday 2/19) ANYWAY I realized something profound and hilarious,  Twilight is racist.

Ok, ok, I know what you’ll say, but there’s that one vampire with the dreds!  Yeah, and he gets killed off, and we don’t see any other “vampires of color? until the end of the fourth book.  So what I’m really focusing in on here is the vampire werewolf rivalry.  How come the vampires are all pale and beautiful and the “tan” native folk turn into scary snarling wolves?  Whether you’re Team Edward or Team Jacob you’re definitely rooting for something much more profound.

But then again, the vampires sparkle like fairies.

Pulse, Over and Out.
